WHY 1950 - 1975 ??

Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club

Wikipedia cites a 1950 start to US Navy operations in Indochina:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonkin_Gulf_Yacht_Club
There was a US Navy presence in 1950 on the staff of:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Assistance_Advisory_Group
We had ships moving troops and supplies for the French in the early 1950's
In 1954 the French lost at Dien Bien Phu and we conducted:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Passage_to_Freedom
then had a nearly continuous presence in the South China Sea
Another Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club site lists 1950 as the start:
http://jerryjagger.tripod.com/tgyc.html
Others have used the 1950 start date before I have.
I use 1950 as a start date to insure my fellow Navy vets who have served in the
South China Sea / Indochina / Vietnam theater of operations are not excluded.
Best to ALL HANDS on your end,
