The USS BADGER (FF-1071), a Knox class frigate, was commissioned on 1 DEC 1970 as DE-1071. After sixteen months of post-commissioning work ups and upgrades USS BADGER departed for her first "West Pac" and Vietnam in March 1972. BADGER continued a series of Western Pacific deployments, some extending in to the Indian Ocean, throughout her service career. USS BADGER served her country for 21 years and 19 days, until decommissioned on 20 DEC 1991. She was sunk as a target during multi-fleet exercise RIMPAC 98 on 22 JUL 1998 north of the Hawaiian Islands.
